Google Search and AI: what we're doing
Dear families, you may have seen in the news that Google is changing how Search works for students. Here's what that means and what we're doing about it.
What Google decided
Starting in early 2027, schools that turn off Google's AI tools also lose Google Search. Schools that keep Search can't turn off the AI-written answers at the top, called AI Overviews.
Rated Google's AI search an Unacceptable Risk for kids.
What our district is doing
- Keeping Google Search available for students.
- Exploring AI governance tools that hide AI answers and show how AI is used in class.
- Choosing safe, monitored AI tools built for school.
- Asking Google for a simple setting to turn off AI answers and keep Search.
